LAMC Reading Group “Taking Anthropology Seriously”

Dear colleagues,

After our recent and exciting exchanges on beliefs, religions, sciences, cultural relativism and universalism, ethnocentrism, ‘God’ and deities, ontologies and epistemologies, sacrifices, magic, and Wittgensteinian philosophy, we are pleased to invite you for the next session on Wednesday 17 December 2025, from 10:00 to 12:00, in Room Doucy – yes, just before the LAMC lunch! Here is the next text we will present as a starting point for our discussions (see attached PDF):

TODD, Zoe. “An Indigenous Feminist’s Take on the Ontological Turn: ‘Ontology’ Is Just Another Word for Colonialism.” Journal of Historical Sociology, 2016, 29 (1): 4–22.

The idea is simple: we will comment on the proposed text together and benefit from collective reflections on our own research and fieldwork. Reading the text in advance is strongly encouraged to ensure broad participation in the exchanges, but of course, everyone does their best. The format will remain flexible, informal and unconditionally respectful. At the end of each session, a theme may emerge from the discussion, and one or two volunteers can take the lead in preparing the next appointment.

If you are abroad on the 17/12 but you still want to join, we will organize ourselves accordingly (decent sound, camera, etc.)! Let us know beforehand.

Many thanks to Gabriel, Sofia, Céline and Bénédicte for organizing the first gatherings

We look forward to seeing you and continuing these fruitful exchanges together.
